Nutrisystem Gets New VP of Communications

The Fort Washington-based weight-management business is looking to drive consumer and corporate communications strategies.

Nutrisystem, a Fort Washington-based weight-management business, has announced that Robin Shallow is the company’s new vice present of public relations and corporate communications. According to a company press release, Shallow is a public relations veteran with over two decades of experience working with, “some of the biggest, most valuable consumer media brands In health and weight loss.” Her goals will be to drive consumer and corporate communications strategies for the Nutrisystem brand, and oversee corporate media relations, brand publicity, internal communications, events and community relations. Fort Washington Company Accused of Using Applicant Tracking Hiring System

A former Fort Washington-based Research Pharmaceutical Services Inc. executive claims he was fired for raising objections to alleged hiring practice.

The Fort Washington-based Research Pharmaceutical Services Inc. is being sued by a former employee for allegedly being fired over objecting to the company’s hiring practice. According to www.modernhealthcare.com, Joseph Brennan served as a chief information officer for the company from June 2010 – 2012. He said he was fired after objecting to the company’s alleged hiring practice that involved an applicant tracking system, which collected and analyzed personal details of potential employees, including sexual orientation, religion and political views, to be placed accordingly. Local Students Receive National Merit Scholarship

Students at Germantown Academy, Mount St. Joseph Academy receive National Merit Scholarship.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced today the 2013 $2,500 Merit Scholarship winners. There are 8,000 students nationwide who will receive a National Merit Scholarship in 2013, totally $35 million. According to a release, students are selected based on academic record, "scores from two standardized tests, contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by the Finalist; and a recommendation written by a high school official." Fort Washington Business to Help County Courthouse 'Go Green'

Constellation NewEnergy Inc. to help courthouse reduce uses of water, electric and gas.

Every house could use ways to "go green," including a Courthouse. The Montgomery County Commissioners agreed, and recently voted to hire one local business to help make their "house" get more ecofriendly. Constellation NewEnergy Inc., based in Fort Washington, was awarded a contract recently via an unanimous vote, to help the Montgomery County Courthouse go green by reducing uses of water, electric and gas, according to a WFMZ post. The courthouse currently spends more than $600,000 per year on energy. "Ultimately, we will realize significant savings right away," said Commissioner Chairman Joshua Shapiro told WFMZ. Hungry Bear Delivers to Fort Washington Train Station

New cafe in Fort Washington makes everything to order and will deliver - even to the train station.

When taking the train from Fort Washington, there's a new option for coffee, a snack, or even to grab breakfast or lunch. The Hungry Bear, located at 429 S. Bethlehem Pike in Fort Washington, opened on April 12, making everything fresh and in house. Chef and Owner Derek Cantwell, said they make just about everything in house, from the sausage to the pastries and more. He added that they get fresh bread from Baker Street Bread Company. On top of the house made items, everything is made to order. Cantwell told Patch he learned to cook from him mother and then trained under people while working at high end restaurants, as well as trying things out on his own and paying attention to details. How Did DeVry, MCCC Do on the College Scorecard?

The White House released the College Scorecard, with looks at loan repayment, costs, graduation rates and more of the nations colleges, including DeVry University in Fort Washingon and Montgomery County Community College.

  After President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address in February, the White House has released the College Scorecard. According to the WhiteHouse.gov website, "College Scorecards in the U.S. Department of Education’s College Affordability and Transparency Center make it easier for you to search for a college that is a good fit for you." Students at DeVry University in Fort Washington spend an average of $26,700 a year, after grants and scholarships. This is an increase of 5.3 percent from the costs from 2007 to 2009. According to the College Scorecard, families borrow an average of $19,800 in Federal Student Loans, which amounts to $227 a month over 10 years. However, 24.1 percent of borrowers default on their Federal student loans …
