Police Searching for Delaware Woman Who Kidnapped Daughter

Tara Bertrand, 39, lost custody of her 5-year-old daughter Kiera and was supposed to turn the child over to DFS on Monday. Police believe she may be in Pa.

According to a release issued by Delaware State Police, troopers are seeking the public’s assistance in finding a woman wanted in connection with interfering with the custody of her 5-year-old daughter.  On Monday April 2, detectives from Troop 4 in Georgetown, Del., assisted the Division of Family Services (DFS) with an investigation involving Tara Bertrand, 39, in reference to the neglect of her child, 5-year-old Kiera Bertrand. DFS was awarded custody of Kiera Bertrand through Family Court in Sussex County. Tara Bertrand did not appear at the hearing, nor did she bring her child to the hearing as requested.  The whereabouts of Bertrand and her daughter are unknown, but there is a possibility the two may be in or traveling to …

Local Lawyers: Facebook May Be Used Against You in a Court of Law

Posts from Facebook are showing up more and more often in divorce and custody proceedings in Family Court.

According to a story in The Legal Intelligencer, instances of Facebook posts being used as evidence in family court are becoming more and more common. The law journal talked to several lawyers about the phenomenon, including some right here in Montgomery County. "By and large, we haven't had a custody case where something Facebook-related doesn't come up," Jonathan Hoffman, an attorney specializing in family law at Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby in Norristown, told The Legal Intelligencer. Christian Badali, another lawyer with Weber Gallagher relayed the incident of a husband who created a fake Facebook page for his wife complete with racey photos and fake posts and updates.
