Paparazzi, red carpet, runway, cocktails, glamour! Frox Spring Fashion show will be held in Ambler on April 4 beginning at 7 p.m.
A New York-style fashion show is coming to the Ambler Theater, hosted by women's boutique Frox. Jill Strickland, owner of Frox, said the semi-annual event began with 100 people in her store in Perkasie, expanded to the loft space above the Perkasie store, and now has grown large enough that they are glamorously taking over the Ambler Theatre on April 4. Runway, red carpet, paparazzi, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres will just be the beginning of this fun girls night out. The fashion show itself will take place in the main theater, with real Frox customers modeling the clothes, ages 16 to 82. The Ambler Theater red carpet Oscar Party and 10th birthday celebration will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24, with tickets on sale now. Tickets include food, drink, music and the Academy Awards will be playing all all three screens, according to the theater's website. General admission tickets are $45. The all inclusive, VIP Red Carpet Pass is $60 and includes a red carpet reception and backstage dessert and champagne, as well as preferred advanced seating. All screens at the Ambler Theater have been converted to digital.
On Jan. 1, the Ambler Theater unveiled the new "Digital Cinema projectors and equipment," officially converting the theater from film to digital, according to their website. The 18 month fundraising campaign exceeded the goal of $300,000. "Our original budget, set 18 months ago, was $300,000. The actual cost increased for two reasons. First, we did a more complete conversion, including a 4K resolution projector (with 3D capability) in the big theater, 2K resolution projectors (with 4K upgradability) in the other two theaters, new screens (better suited for digital cinema) in all theaters, and various other items. Television network, Sprout, was in Downtown Ambler on Friday, filming a promo ad for the Chica Awards.
On Friday, television channel, Sprout, had a block of downtown Ambler blocked off around the Ambler Theater to shoot a promo for their Sunnyside Up Show's Chica Awards. Kate Webster, Production Manager for Sprout, told Patch that Sprout scouted movie theaters around the Philadelphia area at which to shoot the promo. She said they choose the Ambler Theater because it was "gorgeous…and what we wanted." She added that the theater had "a great look." The Sunnyside Up Show is filmed live every morning. The Chica Awards will air on Dec. 23.

The small auditorium at the Ambler Theater will be closed until Oct. 10 while it undergoes renovations, according to the blog by Renew Theaters, which owns the Ambler Theater. "Since September and October are normally slow months, we are taking the time now to make some of the building changes we need so we are ready when we make the switch to digital," reads the blog. The theater's digital campaign is "going very well," with the timeline to change to digital before 2013 remaining the same. La Traviata, an Italian opera being performed at the Sydney Opera House, will be shown in at the Ambler Theater on Oct. 7 at 12:30 p.m. According to Emerging Pictures, the opera, which will be performed on a floating stage in the Sydney Harbor under the stars at the Syndey Opera House, will be performed in Italian and at the Ambler Theater, will be subtitled in English. The festival includes trivia, a costume contest, and “some stupefying prizes,” not to mention white Russians! The Ambler Theater has the recipe for hot summer nights - just add Hollywood. Ambler's independent theater on Thursday unveiled its 2012 Hollywood Summer Nights schedule. The program includes two types of films, Hollywood Classics and After Dark, the theater's special events manager, Chris Collier, said on the theater's blog.
