The Upper Dublin School Board will meet Monday, April 8 at 7 p.m. in the Upper Dublin High School Cardinal Room. According to the draft agenda, superintendent Michael Pladus will deliver a brief update on the 2013-14 district budget. A full budget meeting is scheduled for next week, Monday, April 15 in the Cardinal Room. -- The Upper Dublin Board of Commissioners will hold its stated meeting April 9 at 7 p.m. at the township building. Ongoing efforts are being made to help lower the overpopulation of the American Whitetails.
Upper Dublin is raging a battle. Each year, the municipality strategizes, plots and plans. They have an ongoing fight to win. What are they battling? Deer. According to Nature Tourism, the state's population of deer has been on the rise since 1900. "In suburban and urban areas, deer densities have reached 60 to 100 per square mile," said Nature Tourism's website. "Pennsylvania's population of whitetails has grown by 20 percent in the last five years, from 1.2 million to 1.6 million." Those in Upper Dublin are all too aware of the issue. The township has had a pilot program in place since 2009 to help curb the overpopulation of the animal. 'What's the problem?,' one might ask. The Upper Dublin School Board will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria for its legislative meeting. The school board, according to its draft agenda, will discuss canceling low-enrollment high school courses. The 29th annual UD Medals are coming, but not before we see some nominees.
Upper Dublin Township is looking for a few good men (and women) (and businesses) (and non-profits). Simply put, the township is seeking the best of the community. The Upper Dublin Medal awards are upon us, but first, the residents of the area needs to suggest some potential winners. According to a website that maps census data, rental prices in the Upper Dublin Patch coverage area vary quite a bit.
If you rent in the Upper Dublin Township area, you'll be interested to know that your monthly rent might be higher than your neighbors. A website called RichBlocksPoorBlocks.com has broken down these facts into a very digestable, detailed, yet understandable interactive map. Do you want to know what the renters "next door" are paying? Do you need to beef up your negotiations with your landlord? This map can help. As you can see from the image, those in the east portion of the township are paying an average of $818 in monthly rent. UD Police operate a brand new 'Datamaster' to analyze those suspected of a DUI.
Though state troopers will not use a breathalyzer test on those suspected of driving under the influence (DUI), the police in Upper Dublin will. The Pennsylvania State Police's decision to suspend the use of breathalyzers (as reported by Patch on Jan. 30), will not change how Upper Dublin does its business. According to an article in the Ambler Gazette, because the decision to suspend PSP's use was made by a judge in Dauphin County, those in Montgomery County do not per se need to follow the same guidelines. "The state police decision has no impact on Montgomery County’s Fastrack centers, which are run by the county’s sheriff’s department, First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele said last week," said the Gazette. From patches to yearbooks, there are some unique finds on the online auction website.
Who knew? Upper Dublin Township is represented fairly well on the national auction website known as eBay. In a recent search for our township, some really unique products were easily found for the local area. Some fun finds include a Upper Dublin Township embroidered patch, and some yearbooks from 1955-56. A search on Thursday revealed editions of the venerable Mundockian yearbook from 1955, 1956 and 1958 up for sale. Each was around $90. A unique embroirdered patch for the township, with the slogan "Brotherhood, Health, Happiness" was available on eBay for $2 or $6. A beer stein from Fort Washington and a book on the Fort Washington and Upper Dublin areas, released by the Fort Washington Historical Society round out the list of unique …

In the 2013 draft budget for Upper Dublin township made public this week, residents would see a 3.4 percent tax increase, according to a report in the Ambler Gazette. "The proposed $30,814,930 budget raises millage from 5.231 to 5.409 mills," increasing the average real estate tax bill in the township $35, to a total of $1,055. The Township Board of Commissioners will meet for an all day hearing on Dec. 1 to go through the budget line-by-line and make any possible cuts to the budget. Township Manager Paul Leonard said he expects most of the cuts for come from the capital budget which has a lot of roadway and culvert projects.
