Celebrate 200 Years of 'Pride and Prejudice' at UD Library

Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year, and the Upper Dublin Library is getting in on the international celebration.

"It is a truth universally acknowledged," might be one of the most well know opening lines of any classic literature. Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year, and the Upper Dublin Library is getting in on the international celebration. Four programs over the next three months will celebrate the mile stone for the well love classic-turned film. First, former history teacher from Upper Dublin High School, Steve Heck, will discuss the real history behind the stories of the upper class is Georgian England on Wednesday, March 27 at 7 p.m. On Sunday, April 28, Elizabeth Steele, from the Jane Austen Society of North America, will speak about the past, present and future of Pride and Prejudice. Upper Dublin Library Looking to Hire

The Upper Dublin Public Library is seeking an assistant director.

  According to the Upper Dublin Public Library’s website, the library is looking for a full-time assistant director. The applicant will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing all areas of public services and will work closely with the library director.  Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Friday, March 8. Upper Dublin Library Announces Special Hours During Renovations

The library does not plan to close for any days, however, there will be delayed openings on a few days during construction.

Information from Upper Dublin Public Library: With only weeks to go before our November 5 construction start date, you will certainly be noticing some changes at the Upper Dublin Public Library (UDPL). Several collections have already been moved to temporary locations, including New Books , audio books (now in the children’s area), Young Adult graphic novels, Young Adult nonfiction and some fiction, and Reference. Please don’t hesitate to ask us if you can’t find what you’re looking for. We at the UDPL are making every effort to continue to serve you well during renovations. Upper Dublin Library Renovations Scheduled to Begin November 5

Renovations at the library is scheduled to begin November 5, but there will be a lot of moving the weeks beforehand.

From Upper Dublin Public Library: Now that the busy summer is over and the construction contracts have been awarded (the Upper Dublin Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to accept the lowest responsible bids at the Stated Meeting on Tuesday, September 14, 2012), you’ll start to see us preparing the UDPL facility for renovations. The contracts were awarded to Centre Point Contracting of Lansdale, PA for general construction ($106,200), Palman Electric of Huntington Valley, PA ($81,500), and John G. Moser & Son Inc. of Feasterville, PA for mechanical (HVAC) work ($9,838). Construction is scheduled to begin on November 5, but there is a lot to be done before that time. Local businesses are partnering with Wissahickon Valley Public Library and Upper Dublin Library as part of the Library Card Sign Up Month and Business Promotion.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and the Wissahickon Valley Public Library and Upper Dublin Library are hold their third annual Library Card Sign-Up and Business Promotion from September 1 through 30. Businesses offer a gift or discount when patron show thier library card. "Our goals are two-fold - to drive new customers to our local businesses and to encourage patrons to get a library card," Sue Burdick, Community Outreach Coordinator for Wissahickon Valley Public Library told Patch. Upper Dublin Library Receives Grant From Family Place

Family Place Libraries dedicated to children literacy and the health of communities.

The Upper Dublin Library has been awarded a Library Services and Technology Act Family Place grant, in the amount of $5,000. Family Place Libraries is a network of children's librarians that begin building literacy at birth. According to the Family Place Libraries website, a Family Place library expands on the “traditional role of children's services, Family Place builds on the knowledge that good health, early learning, parental involvement and supportive communities play a critical role in young children's growth and development.” Libraries with a large selection of books, multimedia, toys, music and more, for babies, toddlers and parents, are core components of Family Place Libraries. Library Planning UDPL-ReNEWed!

Renovations coming to Upper Dublin Township Library.

From Upper Dublin Township Library: Later this year, the UDPL will be undergoing renovations to its 20-year old facility. Since the reason for the renovations is to modernize the Library by creating new community spaces for you, our patrons, dedicated to specific activities and audiences, we've named this project UDPL-ReNEWed!. Over the next few months, you'll be hearing much more about it, but I'd like to share a little about it with you right now. I'm excited to tell you about the improvements we have envisioned. Last year, what began as an idea for carving out a larger teen area became a full-blown redesign proposal that, I believe, has something for everyone. Upper Dublin Library Unveils New Mural

Local artists, Fort Washington Elementary art teacher, paint mural for Upper Dublin Library

The Upper Dublin Library’s new mural, highlighting Upper Dublin Township landmarks, can be found in the Story Hour Room. The new mural was painted by resident graphic designers Carol Kocher & Judith Bucci, as well as Fort Washington Elementary School art teacher, Fred Flothmeier. It was funded by the Friends of the Upper Dublin Public Library with additional support of the Teen Library Council. You can see the mural during the many Summer Reading Programs being held all summer, or summer story hours. To see all the summer programs, visit the library’s website.

Dave Menaker Named Upper Dublin Library Volunteer of the Year

"Reliable," "conscientious," "meticulous," and "precise" describe Dave Menaker.

Upper Dublin Library named their Volunteer of the Year for 2012. This year, Dave Menaker was honored as Volunteer of the Year. "This year's recipient has been with us since 2008. A truly devoted worker, his nominators described him as "reliable," "conscientious," "meticulous," and "precise" - the highest of praise from librarians. He can be counted on to take on any task, whether it's keeping our shelves well-organized and tidy or playing detective and finding items on our shelves where the rest of us could not. For those who have the chance to work with him, he's no passive volunteer, but instead challenges us regularly, going so far as to even question some of our practices or decisions, but he has become truly a member of the Library …
