Forgotten Runaway Slaves Given a Memorial Service in Maple Glen

Members of all faiths and races attended the service at Upper Dublin Quaker Meetinghouse.

The Upper Dublin Quaker Meetinghouse was once a stop on the Underground Railroad. Fugitive slaves were buried in its cemetery upon death. It made sense, then, to member Avis Wanda McClinton, to host a service in their memory in honor of Black History Month, according to the Ambler Gazette. The Maple Glen-based meetinghouse served as the meeting place for those of all faiths and races. The community gathered to give the slaves a memorial they never had, according to the Gazette. Due to its popularity, a second service has been scheduled for Feb. 16 from 2 to 3 p.m. again at the Meetinghouse. For the full story on the informal service, visit the Gazette here.
