The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Philadelphia and all surrounding counties through 9 p.m. Wednesday. See also: Thunderstorm Safety Tips from the Red Cross According to the NWS, conditions are favorable for thunderstorms containing 1-inch hail and the possibility of wind gusts of at least 58 mph. Heavy rain and "dangerous" cloud-to-ground lightning are possible.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect through 9:00 p.m. for most of Greater Philadelphia Area
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Montgomery, Chester, Bucks, Delaware and Philadelphia Counties through 9:00 p.m. Friday. NWS radar at 3:20 p.m. Friday showed a line of storms about 45 miles west of Allentown, moving east at about 20 miles per hour. No existing storm cells were visibly headed toward Montgomery County, but the NWS forecast calls for "likely" showers and thunderstorms in the area by 9:00 p.m. tonight. Some of the storms "could produce gusty winds and heavy rain," the NWS said.
