Five students at Upper Dublin High School have a lot to be proud of this year. The three juniors netted perfect scores on a recent SAT. Another two students missed only one. According to a report in the Ambler Gazette, Julie Baldassano, of Maple Glen, Benjamin She, of Ambler, and William Raynor, of Dresher all scored a perfect 2400 on the test, which is used as a standardized entrance exam for many colleges and unviersities. Alan Yang, of Dresher, missed only one math question when he took the exam. Emily Zauzmer, of Dresher, said she left one math question blank, making it her only "miss" on the exam. The five from Upper Dublin were happy with their performances. “I still don’t really believe it,” Baldassano told the Gazette. “I was …

With a maximum possible score of 2400 on the SAT test, Upper Dublin High School's average in 2011 was 1678, which ranked it number 9 in Southeastern Pennsylvania, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. Other neighboring high schools in the top 30 include Lower Merion in 3rd, Wissahickon in 14th, Methacton in 18th, and Hatboro-Horsham in 27th. The SAT has three sections, reading, writing and math, each section worth 800 points.
Trend is not ringing true in the Upper Dublin School District, where the SATs still reign supreme.
The ACT tests have started to win a national popularity test. According to a blog on the Washington Post, it has overtaken the SAT as the most popular college admissions exam in the United States. A report information from FairTest showed that in 2012, the ACT has finally surpassed the more traditional SAT exams. 2011: 1,623,112 took the ACT; 1,647,123* took the SAT 2012: 1,666,017 took the ACT; 1,664,479* took the SAT (* Once it saw that the number of ACT-takers had grown larger, based on a historically consistent measure, the College Board revised the 2010 SAT total upward by including more exam administrations, a practice it continued in 2011 and 2012.) However, in the Upper Dublin School District, students aren’t trending in the …

Offers advice to fellow students.
According to the College Board, the odds that a student will open the mail and find they have earned the top score of 2400 on the SAT are 1 in 5,152. If that doesn’t sound too rare, consider that roughly 500 Upper Dublin students take the exam each year, meaning that a perfect score would be roughly a once in a decade experience. Well, ‘once in a decade,’ has arrived, as Upper Dublin’s Kevin Li recently scored a perfect 2400 on the nation’s most well known test, adding it to a list of impressive accomplishments. “I was pleasantly surprised with my score,” said Li, who was taking the exam for the first and only time. “After I took the test I couldn’t think of too many errors that I had made, but there is always room for mistakes.” Jennifer …

I don't think many 'educators' or people at large see any correlation between standard test scores and 'success' in college or life for that matter. There are always examples to prove this wrong. Education is a daily process and life long habit. It's about techniques and commitment to larger goals as well as the day to day details and formulas and all the course content. I agree with Michael that…   more ›
