Operation 'Weed Whacker' nets eight arrests, four firearms, over $700,000 in cash and 400 pounds of high-grade marijuana
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman has announced eight arrests in connection with Operation "Weed Whacker," which sought to bring down a multimillion-dollar marijuana trafficking ring. According to the press release, the DA's Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) began an investigation in September of 2012 into the trafficking of high-grade marijuana in Whitpain Township. Two months into the investigation, detectives learned that hundreds of pounds of marijuana were being distributed throughout southeastern Pennsylvania by two brothers, identified as Dennis Frederick, 40, of Delaware County, and Jeffrey Frederick, 32, of Philadelphia, the release states. Delaware Valley politicians ban together to fight to get tougher gun laws. The district attorneys in the Greater Philadelphia area have put their heads together to find ways to restrict illegal weapons in the region. Risa Vetri Ferman, Montgomery County District Attorney, told Nesworks that "the legislation could also help reduce violence in [Montgomery County] areas." According to a report by WHYY, Ferman has "joined a bipartisan contingent of lawmakers to discuss new state legislation setting a mandatory minimum two-year sentence for illegally carrying a firearm in Philadelphia." As viewers make the popcorn and snuggle up on the couch, Bradley Cooper is likely checking his tux, checking the limo times and stretching for a long walk down the red carpet. The Oscars are this Sunday. The awards will air at 7 p.m. Sunday on ABC. Up for best actor is the Montgomery County-born and -raised Bradley Cooper. His work in "Silver Linings Playbook" has helped to net the flick eight nominees including best actor, best actress (his co-star Jennifer Lawrence), best picture and best director (David O. Russell). TLC is casting for their show "Four Weddings" in the Philadelphia area. Multiple sources say Philadelphia narcotics officer Gerald Gibson has been put on administrative leave.
Last updated 6:20 p.m. Multiple news outlets are reporting that the son-in-law of Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia Police. Sources tell NBC10 that Gerald Gibson, a narcotics officer, has been placed on administrative leave. Police reportedly issued a brief statement about an officer being removed from his duties after a joint investigation by the FBI and Internal Affairs. The officer was not reportedly identified and has not been arrested or charged with a crime. The traditional and famous Levis hot dogs can be found in Abington, as well as in delis around Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties.
Levis Hot Dogs, which has been around in South Philadelphia for over 100 years, had been resurrected in Abington by Elliot Hirsch, owner of the new Levi Hot Dogs on Old York Rd. Hirsh bought Levis in 1990, but closed the business for a few years when a number of different business plans failed. A year ago, Hirsch opened the Levis Hot Dog shop in Abington, following the original Levis hot dog recipe for all beef, lean hot dogs, right out of South Philly. Hirsch, who has a background in product development, spent nearly two years testing the hot dog recipe with a number of manufacturers before finding the manufacturer that could produce hot dogs that look and taste like the ones everyone remembers. Nailla Robinson was taken out of her school Monday morning by an unidentified woman.
Last updated Tuesday 8:45 a.m. Nailla Robinson has been found safe. NBC Philadelphia reports that the child was located early this morning at a playground in Upper Darby. A passerby heard her cries for help as he was on his way to work. She is being evaluated at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Earlier story below. Information from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation: The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is partnering with Amtrak on "PA Trips By Train," an initiative designed to increase interest in the Keystone train service between Harrisburg and Philadelphia, and to promote an alternate travel option for visiting popular events and destinations. As part of the excursions packages, customers can purchase discounted train tickets from Amtrak and receive a pass for transportation from the train station to the excursion destination. Jared Schmuckler, a 16 year old Dresher resident, spent Sunday, Nov. 4 in Philadelphia as a participant in the National Brain Tumor Society's Race for Hope. As a 12 year old, Schmuckler found out he had a tumor in his brain, according to a report in the Ambler Gazette, and the tumor needed to be removed. "In January 2009, Jared learned the seven-hour surgery to remove the tumor was a success, he would not need any kind of radiation or chemotherapy, and after an eight-day stay in the hospital, he was able to go home." Jared's mother, Sharon, said the race is a good was for "Jared to connect with people who have had similar experiences."
