Penn State Abington has cancelled the remainder of the school’s 2013 men’s lacrosse season, according to a story on insidelacrosse.com. According to the story, a small roster and injuries led to the decision. Penn State Abington athletic director Shawne McCoy said: This is by no means a reflection on the members of the team or how hard they were working. Lacrosse is a sport where substitutes are necessary and where teams rotate players every few minutes to stay fresh. Not having the capability to make substitutions doesn't just make it hard to practice or play; it virtually eliminates their recovery time and as a result, makes them more susceptible to injury. Penn State Abington announced earlier today that it has named a new athletic director. Chancellor Karen Wiley Sandler said that Shawne McCoy will be the new director of athletics, intramurals and recreation. McCoy replaces Karen Weaver, who stepped down on Dec. 31 to pursue a faculty post at Drexel University after six years at Penn State Abington. McCoy will officially join Penn State Abington on Feb. 4 and will represent Penn State Abington at the 2013 NCAA Convention from Jan. 16-19.
