The Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Regional School moves in the same direction with its inaugural 5K Run over the weekend.
Blustery winds and snowy conditions couldn’t stop the nearly 380 runners and walkers from supporting Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Regional School’s inaugural 5k event, held on the early morning of March 16. The 5K, named “Run for Mercy,” took place in and around the grounds of the St. Alphonsus Parish Center, located in Maple Glen. The actual 5k route started from the St. Aphonsus Parish Center and continued along Bell Lane to Temple Drive through the campus of Temple University on Meetinghouse Lane. While the morning proved to be brisk, patches of green race shirts could be seen through fleeces and jackets. The shirts had the Catholic regional school’s logo on it, complete with an ornate shamrock to mark the St. Patrick’s Day weekend …

Students at the Upper Dublin regional catholic school raised more than $2,000 for the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

According to the Times Herald, students at the Our Lady of Mercy Regional Catholic School in Upper Dublin, organized an event in partnership with the Penn State University THON organization. The event, on Feb. 1, involved the school’s kindergarten to eighth-grade students, during which they danced in the school’s gymnasium from 9 – 11 a.m. See the story here. Prior to the event, more than $2,000 in donations were collected by the school’s fifth-grade representatives, whose proceeds will go to the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. A dress down day raises money for Hurricane Sandy Relief.

Students at Our Lady of Mercy Regional Catholic School got the chance to dress down for a good cause. Students paid a dollar to dress in jeans and t-shirts instead of their uniforms, and the money raised went to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, according to CBS Philadelphia. "7th and 8th grade Religion Teacher Sister Pauline says many students brought in more than the required dollar." A bake sale was also held in the cafeteria to raise additional funds.

Our Lady of Mercy Regional Catholic School has been preparing all summer for a brand new school year, which will combine three local Catholic elementary schools into the one site, at 29 Conwell Drive in Maple Glen. According to the Ambler Gazette, the new school will enroll 590 students, has hired “26 homeroom teachers, with three teachers per grade plus two kindergarten teachers. Additionally, the school has also hired physical education, library, music, Spanish, honors math and resource teachers.” Our Lady of Mercy will be installing modular classrooms for art, music and band classes this year, however, no further changes to the building will be made this school year.
