Near Miss Nor'easter As Seen From Space

Our area didn't receive much in the way of wintery precipitation, but a NASA satellite shows heavy snowfall on Sandy-affected areas.

Last week's nor'easter was a near miss for Montgomery County and most of the western suburbs, but some areas of New Jersey and New York received more than eight inches of snow, with some areas reporting as much of a foot of accumulation. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this natural-color view of the region last Friday, November 9. Read more:

Up to Five Inches of Snow On Its Way

Impacts on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday morning commutes likely

A winter storm featuring wind gusts up to fifty miles per hour is expected to begin depositing up to five inches of snow on the area beginning Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory and a wind advisory for all of Montgomery County. Light rain and snow that arrives Wednesday morning is expected to intensify in the form of snow during the afternoon hours as temperatures remain in the mid-to-upper 30s. Phillyweather.net expects most of the precipitation this afternoon, when winds are forecast to be strongest, to take the form of "wetter, denser snow." The precipitation may switch to rain tonight before temperatures drop near freezing during the overnight hours. Phillyweather.net projected in a …

Soggy, Perhaps Snowy Midweek Storm

There was nothing nice about the weather last week and there will be nothing nice about Wednesday's nor'easter either, but odds favor a wonderful weekend of Fall weather are on the horizon.

Many people are still picking up the pieces in the wake of Hurricane Sandy's path across our region last week. Millions lost power at one point, billions of dollars in damage likely, and numerous communities beat down and destroyed by the wrath of a late season hurricane that will never be forgotten by some area residents. Pouring some salt on the open wound that is still across the region is another coastal storm likely to impact us on Wednesday into Thursday. Computer modeling suggests the brunt of the nor'easter will be felt on Wednesday afternoon into Thursday before it pulls away. It will not be as strong as Sandy, but the potential for 50 mph wind gusts at the Shore and 30 mph wind gusts across the Philly suburbs is enough to add …

Nor'easter Could Arrive Tuesday Night

There's nothing "tropical" about this storm system, which could give us our first snowfall of the season.

Just as the Philadelphia suburbs are getting back on their feet following their encounter with Hurricane Sandy last week, another serious coastal storm has the area in its crosshairs. The Mt. Holly/Philadelphia office of the National Weather Service said Saturday that a "coastal nor'easter" storm system will threaten the area later this week. The storm, which could arrive as early as Tuesday night, could feature gale force wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. Rainfall is expected near the coast, but temperatures could be low enough in our area to produce wintery precipitation. The storm "will have greater impact than usual because of the serious impacts from Coastal Storm Sandy," the weather agency said. The storm is of greatest concern for…
