Dogs have a whole range of activities they can learn, from agility to freestyle.
Have you ever looked at your dog and thought, “I wish there was something fun we could do together ?” There is, and it doesn’t matter if your dog is small or large or anywhere in between. Nor does it matter if they’re purebred or a mutt. All over the country, dogs compete in many activities that are fun and physical, and some that make them think or showcase what they’re bred to do. Agility Agility is the “obstacle course” of dog activities. The National Dog Show performance team visited Brooke Elementary School on Friday, Nov. 16 and showed off what they can do with weave poles and tunnels. Sally Roth and Lourdes Edlin, who are part of the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, brought three Border Collies named Dot, Garmin and Sting and a …

The National Dog Show Therapy Dog Ambassador Team visits kids who are away from home for medical treatment.
Vivian, Lil Abner and Stella are three amazing dogs who represent therapy dogs all over the country. Lil Abner and Stella weigh over 100 pounds each but will lay quietly on the floor while a toddler crawls all over them. Vivian, a pit bull mix, proves every day how unfair the "dangerous dog" stereotype is. She will sit to be petted and will snuggle with any kid who approaches. These three dogs visit the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald Houses weekly. Kids who are visiting Philadelphia-area hospitals for medical treatment can stay at the Ronald McDonald House for any length of time. Abner and Stella are owned by Steven and Donna Kramer of Langhorne. They are Dogues de Bordeaux, which were seen in the 1980s film Turner and Hooch. Vivian was…
The actor and author also held a book signing prior to hosting the National Dog Show.
Seinfeld's J. Peterman. Dancing with the Stars champion. Broadway actor. Author. Dad. All of these things describe the multi-talented John O'Hurley, who arrived in town last weekend to host the National Dog Show Presented by Purina. Before he took on hosting duties, though, he took some time to make two appearances. Saturday morning before the National Dog Show, O'Hurley sat down with about twenty Spring-Ford students as well as members of the DART (Dogs Are Readers Too) therapy dog team to read Hooray for Reading Day! by Margery Cuyler. The book tells the story of Jessica, who is a nervous reader until she reads to her dog, Wiggles. The DART team does this in schools and at libraries - kids can sit down and read aloud to a dog, who …

The National Dog Show, sponsored by Purina, comes back to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center on Saturday and Sunday.
Over a thousand dogs of all shapes and sizes will be lined up inside the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center this weekend for the tenth National Dog Show, which is sponsored by Purina and the Kennel Club of Philadelphia. The show dogs will consist of 173 breeds in seven groups. The go dogs, a group of dogs trained in agility, will be doing demonstrations all day at the Expo Center. These dogs catch flying discs, run agility courses and even dive off docks. The National Dog Show is unique in that it is one of only five "benched" shows in the United States. A benched show means that the dogs being judged are in the building for the duration of the show and their breeders and/or handlers are also there to talk about the dogs with visitors. …
