Introduction: Keith Heffintrayer, Associate Local Editor

I'm a long-time freelancer for Patch and a veteran of the United States Army. A major focus of my new position will be to maintain the standards of coverage for the Upper Dublin Patch.

Hello Upper Dublin! My name is Keith Heffintrayer, and I am the Associate Local Editor for the Montgomery County cluster of Patch sites. With this new position, I'll be fortunate enough to increase my workload in Upper Dublin Township, so I would like to introduce myself and open a line of communication to all the fine residents who make this township so special. Outside of the years where I was stationed in Georgia while serving as a Forward Observer with the United States Army, the greater portion of my life has been spent right here, in Montgomery County. I have a passion for local news, and I love being involved in the community. For the past 18 months, I've been freelancing for a number of Patch sites within Montgomery  County, …

SEPTA Can't Fund Chestnut Hill Bus Route

A final decision on discontinuing the route will be made April 26

SEPTA held a public hearing on Thursday afternoon to discuss the possible discontinuation of bus route #134, which runs from Chestnut Hill to the Montgomery Mall. Montgomery County has subsidized the route since 1994, but the county’s 2012 operating budget has discontinued the subsidy and SEPTA does not have enough funds to continue operating the route, SEPTA representative John Calnan said. Calnan added that there have “been no successful attempts” to get money from the county to continue the route, and SEPTA did try working with the county to make the route work in their budget. Leo Bagley of the Montgomery County Planning Commission said the county hopes to continue to work with SEPTA and the county understands the importance of public …

Recipe: Nothings More American than a Sloppy Joe

They're perfect to bring along for that summertime picnic.

Hot dogs, hamburgers and sloppy joes, they all make me think of summer. And while the store-bought-from-a-can sloppy joe is perfectly fine, this recipe is worth the extra time. Not only does it taste better, but the depth of flavors that come from the red peppers and onions, not to mention the homemade sauce itself, is delicious, and something you can’t get from a can. If you’re planning on making something a little different for you’re next holiday picnic, make this ahead of time, and stick it in a slow cooker set to warm while you grill up your hot dogs and hamburgers. Or, prepare it the night before and while you prepare the meal the next day, stick it in the slow cooker on low for a little. Then, when you’re ready to eat, it’s ready, …

You're Welcome, Earth: Patch Editors Cleanup Montco Trail on Give 5 Day

For the Patch and Aol Give 5 Day, eight Patchers from Montgomery County volunteered and cleaned up nearly a ton of trash from the Cross County Trail.

What does it say about us as a people in this ecosystem when nearly a ton of trash is collected from either side of a two-mile trail? It says there’s a whole hell of a lot more to go. For the volunteer Give 5 program of Patch and Aol, seven local editors of Patch sites of Eastern Pennsylvania One-Regional One spent seven hours Thursday discarding trash from the Cross County Trail. In the end, we collected 34 bags of trash, each weighing about 50 pounds. That is 1,700 pounds—more than three-quarters of a ton—of trash. In seven hours. In just two miles. “I think it is really impressive that our company, Aol, gives us the work hours to do volunteering like this,” said Melissa Treacy, regional editor for Montgomery County Patch sites. “It is …
