Social Security for Your Smartphone

New mobile site allows users to check in on the go.

Carolyn W. Colvin, Acting Commissioner of Social Security, today announced the agency is offering a new mobile optimized website, specifically aimed at smartphone users across the country. People visiting the agency’s website, via smartphone (Android, Blackberry, iPhone, and Windows devices) will be redirected to the agency’s new mobile-friendly site. Apple Mothballs Original iPhone

All hardware services for the original iPhone will be discontinued June 11.

The original 2007-era iPhone will be categorized as obsolete beginning June 11, according to an internal memo from Apple, published online Tuesday. "Obsolete" status means people will no longer be able to have their devices serviced through an Apple store. But don't fret. AppleCare and third-party authorized service centers have a different word for the older models: "vintage." They'll still help out users with those devices, according to Business Insider. Other Apple products set to be minted as vintage in June: mid-2007 models of the iMac, the late 2006 model Xserve, and the original Mac Pro, Mac Rumors reported. Stop Stalking Your Ex on Facebook and 'Make the Kill'

New app, KillSwitch, launches on Feb. 14.

Just in time for the most romantic day of the year, KillSwitch launches in the App Store and GooglePlay today, Feb. 14. According to Mashable, KillSwitch "makes it easy to eliminate your ex's entire presence on your Facebook timeline," however, you must still be Facebook friends with your ex. Identify the Facebook user from your friends list and the "app then crawls your profile for content." You can choose to delete all status updates, photos, videos, everything of your ex or just specific posts and pictures. The grand opening was on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The Apple Store in Willow Grove Park held its grand opening over the weekend and handed out T-shirts to the first 1,000 customers. Sequel to Angry Birds, 'Bad Piggies' to Release Sept. 27

Rovio's 'Bad Piggies' set to be released Sept. 27.

Rovio, the creator of Angry Birds, will release it's latest game, Bad Piggies on Sept. 27. According to Daily Tech, unlike the bird-flinging original, Bag Piggies is expected to be a completely different game, "gamers, which are playing as the pigs, create shelters out of various materials in hopes of gaining protection against the projectile birds." Gamer will build shelters, vehicles and flying machines to protect the pigs against the flying and dive-bombing birds. According to a report in Mashable, creating the perfect vehicle for your pigs to make it through each level is key to the game. Bad Piggies will be available for iOs, Android, PC and Mac.

Hurricane Preparedness Gets Hip With New iPhone App

The American Red Cross is offering a free app to help keep you safe just as hurricane season peaks.

Whether you have an iPhone or Android, the American Red Cross wants to make it easy for you to be prepared during hurricanes. The nonprofit announced today that its new "Hurricane App" is available for free download in both the iPhone App Store and the Google Play Store for Androids — simply by searching American Red Cross. You can also get the app by dialing **redcross from your mobile phone to generate a text message with a download link. “This app gives you important information and tools to use before, during and after the storm,” said Mario Bruno, CEO of the American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island Region. “With Hurricane season heating up, this is a great time to download our free app to check your readiness and add one more …

Cellhelmet: Break Your iPhone In It, Get Another Free

With Cellpig's new protective iPhone case, the company will replace your phone for free if it breaks while inside the case

A company called Cellpig has a new iPhone protective case called Cellhelmet - and if you drop your iPhone 4 or 4S, and it breaks, Cellpig will replace if for free. According to a Mashable article, Cellpig and its concept began as a Kickstarter project. Cases are not available for retail sale. A spokesman for Cellhelmet said over the next two weeks they will be pushing up to various retailers across Pennsylvania.  The only place to order one at present is at this link. Even jailbroken phones are covered under Cellpig's promise. According to its website, Cellhelmet includes accidental damage coverage, new, used and unlocked iPhones are covered too. Apple servers can't handle the amount of downloads for the new operating system upgrade

Having problems with your iPhone or iPad OS 5 update? Chances are, you're not alone. One problem: You need to update to iTunes 10.5. According to The Huffington Post, you need to update iTunes to the newest version in order to properly update your iPhones to the new operating system. People across the world attempting to update their phones are met with a message "Internal Error 3200." It has even become a worldwide trending topic on Twitter and Google. It's not a problem with your phone; this means there is a problem with Apple servers being unable to handle the influx of updates. The best advice is to wait it out a couple days.
