Viewfinder: GNPAL MLK Day of Service 2013

Over 350 volunteers from around the Delaware Valley spent their Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at the Greater Norristown Police Athletic League.

On the morning of Jan. 21, over 350 people listened intently as youth from the Greater Norristown Police Athletic League (GNPAL) took turns reading aloud the famous “I Have a Dream” speech by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Addressing the audience from high above in the gymnasium’s balcony, the youth proudly proclaimed the words of King, whose speech relayed his dream that one day citizens of this nation will be free to be judged, not by how they look but on what they do. Before reaching the end of the speech, the audience, most of whom were strangers at that point, was then asked to clasp hands and in unison proclaim the last words of King’s speech: "Free at last! free at last! Viewfinder: PAL's 17th Annual Lt. Patty Simons Food Drive

Montgomery businesses, volunteers and law enforcement departments have collected food for weeks, culminating in Thursday delivery parade to the Salvation Army.

For weeks now, Montgomery County police and other law enforcement departments, municipalities, businesses, civic groups, schools and volunteers have been collecting food in collaboration with Greater Norristown Police Athletic League's 17th annual Lt. Patty Simons Food Drive. The collection is a long-standing effort by PAL that was named in honor of Lt. Patty Simons in 2007. Simons was Norristown's first female police officer and was instrumental in the success of the food drive in its earlier years, but she succumbed to cancer and passed that year. This year's food was collected from over 35 different locations throughout the county and packed onto trucks at the PAL center for the annual parade to deliver the food to the Salvation Army. …

PAL's 12th Annual International Food & Wine Festival [PHOTOS]

The Greater Norristown Police Athletic League held it's 12th annual International Food & Wine Festival at Plymouth Country Club on Thursday and Patch was there to join the fun.

Crowds of supporters and community leaders turned out Thursday night for the Greater Norristown Police Athletic League's 12th annual International Food & Wine Festival at Plymouth Country Club and Patch was there to document the occasion. Proceeds from the annual event go to support the GNPAL's mission to "serve the youth and families of the Greater Norristown community with recreational, educational, and cultural programs addressing citizenship, self-esteem, avoidance of substance abuse, and respect for law and order." PAL's Annual International Food & Wine Festival Slated for Thursday

Greater Norristown Police Athletic League's 12th annual celebration of food, wine and entertainment kicks off at Plymouth Country Club tonight at 5 p.m.

It's considered by some to be the party of the year for Norristown-area residents (possibly rivaled only by the Elmwood Park Zoo's Oktoberfest) and it's happening tonight. The Greater Norristown Police Athletic League's 12th Annual International Food & Wine Festival takes over the Plymouth Country Club at 888 Plymouth Road with almost two dozen local eateries and vendors offering food, wine, drinks and live entertainment to supporters of PAL. The event runs Thursday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. and tickets are only $50. You can purchase tickets at the door or on the organization's website.
