Ford Recalling Fusion, Escape for Engines Catching Fire

2013 Escape crossovers and Fusion sedans are being recalled for engines overheating and catching fire.

Ford is recalling 89,153 Fusion sedans and Escape crossovers with the Ford EcoBoost turbocharged engine. According to a report in USA Today, the 1.6-liter EcoBoot engines in the Escape and Fusion can overheat and catch fire. There have been 12 fires reported in Escapes and one reported in the Fusion sedans. In a report from the Detroit News, Said Deep, spokesman for Ford, said the overheating engines "can lead to fluid leaks, which may come in contact with a hot exhaust system and trigger a fire." According to a report in the LA Times, "Drivers who have encountered the problem said they noticed high engine temperatures followed by fires.
