Ferguson Remembered Fondly
The long-time principal of Jarrettown Elementary School died Jan. 13.
Long-time Jarrettown Elementary School principal Dr. Henry "Hank" Ferguson, Jr., who died earlier this month, is remembered by former colleagues and students as a "warm" mentor and leader who had a "profound" effect on the people around him. Montgomery Media reports that the World War II veteran, known as the "Silver Fox," was an educator whose busy administrative schedule could screech to a halt so that he could comfort a crying student in a hallway. Ferguson, 86, died Jan. 13., a few days short of his 87th birthday. "He always put the kids first … many a year he got no or little raise because he fought for what he believed was the best interest of education," former teacher Claire Barlow told reporter Linda Finarelli.
