Cheltenham Art Center Announces Awards

The art center's 70th Annual Awards Show runs through May 11.

Artists and spectators gathered Sunday afternoon at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts for its 70th Annual Awards Show. About 50 pieces of media are on display; most of them are paintings. The show’s juror is Joan Wadleigh Curran, painter, guest artist and lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania.  From the juror’s statement: To jury a painting exhibition is an exciting and daunting experience. I love the process of looking. It is an opportunity to see a variety of images and ideas. As a practicing artist, I take the responsibility seriously … I believe it is the juror’s duty to give careful, nuanced attention to each work … My charge is to try to recognize a singular voice, an unusual way of looking at the world or a compelling idea …

Art Center Reception Today

The Cheltenham Center for the Arts kicks off its show.

  The Cheltenham Center for the Arts will hold a reception Sunday afternoon for its 70th annual awards show. The show’s juror is Joan Wadleigh Curran, painter, guest artist and lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania. The reception runs from 2 to 4 p.m.; the show runs through May 11 and gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. CCA will also host a special fundraising event, Art in Bloom, on April 27 in conjunction with the painting show. The event pairs 20 local floral designers with specific paintings in the exhibit. Each floral artist will be paired with a painting and will then create a unique arrangement as his or her interpretation of the chosen work. The designs will be unveiled and floral prizes awarded on the evening of April 27. -- …

News Next Door: Cheltenham Art Center Announces Winners

The 72nd Annual Members Show opened Friday; it runs through Feb. 3.

  The Cheltenham Center for the Arts opened the 72nd Annual Members Show to an energetic and enthusiastic crowd of members, guests and family. The exhibition features work by over 100 members. This vibrant and varied exhibition is an opportunity for all members to showcase their creativity and talent in the community. Deirdre Murphy, lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, was the juror for prizes in the exhibition. “The breadth of work from the Cheltenham members was delightful and inspiring from the beginner painter to the established artist, each work had merit and promise,” she said in a statement.  The Award Winners are as follows: Honorable Mentions went to the following artists: Murphy continued, “As an artist and educator I saw…
