Various help is needed for the two-day festival of music and art, which is scheduled from June 14 and June 15.
Ambler Borough Councilwoman Pat Strus has put out a request for volunteers for this year's Ambler Arts and Music Festival, which is scheduled for Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15. The festival will be anchored by two outdoor stages on Butler Avenue, featuring the area's top bands, as well as the art show which kicks off at the same time. Volunteers are needed to help artists unpack, serve as cashiers for the beer gardens, general clean up, and many other things. This annual program recognizes the best in planning and design in Montgomery County, and acknowledges the high quality work and commitment of communities, organizations, and professionals. About 300 guests participated in the kickoff for the 22nd annual multicultural event, coming April 20 to North Penn High School
While the 22nd annual International Spring Festival brings its multicultural flair to North Penn High School on April 20, the kickoff event Thursday at Christopher Dock Mennonite High School previewed what to expect at the ethnic and cultural celebration in diversity. Planning Committee Co-Chair Tom Meyer told The Reporter that the kickoff event lets sponsors know that the festival is happening again, and lets new sponsors and new volunteers sign on for a chance to be part of the festival. Rebounding, not rebuilding. That is hopefully the mindset of the owners of our four Philadelphia sports franchises as their teams head into 2013. First off, who knows when the NHL will return to play any games this year, but if so, the Philadelphia Flyers will make their usualy Stanley Cup run. The Philadelphia 76ers have fought hard so far this year, sparked by the young shooters Jrue Holiday and Evan Turner. But in order to get into the playoffs and maybe over the hump, getting center Andrew Bynum on board -- even for a month or so -- just might be enough to turn this team into an elite contender. Shapiro: $413.8 million budget is 'an honest game of chess, not cheating at checkers.'
Montgomery County officials on Thursday unveiled a proposed $413.8 million county budget for 2013 that includes no increase in county real estate taxes and sets aside $2.5 million to begin replenishing the county's depleted cash reserves. Board of Commissioners Chairman Josh Shapiro called the budget "honest" while county CFO Uri Monson characterized it as a "first step" toward solving the county's fiscal woes, which have drained the county's reserves and led to downgrades from credit rating authorities. Shapiro said the $2.5 million allocation to the reserves was "a serious down payment on the future." "When our predecessors took office, their reserve fund stood at $100 million," Shapiro said.
