The Lucky Well.. A Sneak Peek!

On Tuesday August 20th my girlfriend and I had the chance to get a sneak peek at the Lucky Well.  I have anxiously waited for the opportunity to sample some BBQ from Chad Rosenthal’s latest restaurant venture for a while.

As you enter the restaurant its very evident that the “Irish Pub” feel left with the Shanachie.  The wood grain and green walls have been changed to a gray & black color scheme and black and white prints are hung throughout the restaurant.

For this event the group of about 40 people were seated at the high top tables in the bar area.  Each table held about 8-10 people.  A Belgian Style Saison from Forest & Main was on tap. This beer was a bit hoppy compared to other Belgians that I prefer but it was a solid choice to have on draft.

For the first course Grilled Bacon & Pablano Hush Puppies w/ spicy agave syrup came out (4) to an order with house made slaw.  They were hot & crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with hints of spice in each bite.  The dipping sauce that was spread on the plate was awesome.

After we polished off (2) orders of the Hush Puppies in was on to a stainless steel bowl of Southern Steamers with corn, ham hocks and toast.  The marriage of ham with the tender clams really worked well together.  My only complaint about this dish was that I could have used more bread or a straw to drink every drop of the broth.  Yeah it was that good. I could have poured it in a glass and drank it with the next course.

Although the first two courses were very good I wanted some BBQ.  Chad didn’t disappoint because the next course was a plate of smoked wings.  The wings had a great smoke flavor along with a light char on the skin and a coating of house made BBQ sauce.  The sauce was sweet with just the right amount of spice.  Extra dipping sauce and creamy ranch dressing were provided for our dipping pleasure.

Smoked Brisket Sliders with BBQ sauce and slaw made up the fourth course.  The Brisket was very tender and flavorful.  The sliders were very similar to the sandwiches at Rosey’s.

For the last course we had a butter cake with Jersey Blueberry’s.  This dish seemed like more like a tart than a cake. Just when I thought we were finished tall glasses filled with Root Beer Floats were brought out to finish the night.  I really enjoyed everything and I can’t wait for the actual opening.
