Patch Lends a Hand at Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard

Original reporting by Tony Di Domizio

The Montgomery County Patch team helped stock shelves Tuesday at the Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard in Ambler, where shelves are packed like sardines, a boutique is stuffed with clothes and a new walk-in freezer is prepared to serve the 150-plus families the cupboard serves monthly in a 13-ZIP code area.

The need in the area is great, according to those who work at the cupboard.

"If I didn't stock this pantry, all this will be gone in a week," said Mike Brown, donation organizer at the cupboard. "And it's getting worse."

The boutique and cupboard is open Monday and Wednesday, 9:30  to 11:30 a.m. Food and clothing donations are accepted Tuesday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Patch's volunteer work at the cupboard is part of the company's nationwide "Give 5" community service program.
