Field Hockey Seeks Support for "Corners for Cancer" Fundraising Game

The Upper Dublin girls' field hockey team hopes the community will support them as they battle Methacton on the field and cancer off of it.

Upper Dublin’s varsity field hockey coach Heather Boyer is proving that the Lady Cardinals can win on and off the field.

Monday afternoon, Coach Boyer announced the third annual “Corners for Cancer” event, which will take place on October 15 at 10:00 a.m.  The community service event, hosted by the entire Upper Dublin Field Hockey organization, benefits the Susan G. Korman Foundation’s affiliate charity, Play 4 the Cure. The team raises money year-round, which has led to over $12,000 donated over the event’s first two years to help the fight against cancer.

A press release issued Monday evening before the team’s game against Christopher Dock encouraged all Upper Dublin alumni to come back and visit Spark Field. Organizers count on returning players, students and teachers alike to cheer on the Lady Cardinals as they take on Methacton in the feature game.

Anyone interested in contributing to the cause can purchase one of three different style t-shirts for $15. They can also make donations through Coach Boyer in the form of cash or check.

The Cardinals include a program in the marquee game, where they honor and remember those who’ve battled breast cancer. There is no cost to add a loved one or friend to their listing.

The team also asks everyone on October 15 to wear pink. The Cardinals have won both games during the time this charitable event has taken place.
