In light of the tragedies highlighted this week, it's so important that we stop and take hold of our most treasured blessings.
This has been such an emotional week for me, on so many levels. While not getting into details, the moral of my story remains: be the best person & mother I know how to be. So many times people judge and question and berate/belittle our choices, not taking into consideration the what's and whys of our decisions.
We live in such a narcissistic, ego-centric world, where greed and evil have become the predominant characteristics of society. There's such a prevalence of self-entitlement.
Three murders this week alone: for a bicycle. Money. Jealousy. We're so consumed with what we should have that we forget that this world is not at all about us. Not about what we have. Or what we think we deserve.
It comes down to values. How we raise our children to have respect and integrity. To work hard, that nothing that's worth having comes easy.
So tell them we love them. A lot. Show them. And teach them to stand up for themselves...and let them know we always have their backs.
And show them by modeling this same behavior. We don't have to like one another, but we must respect one another. We all exist in this world, and we all have a purpose. We must work together to make this world a better place for our children, and the generations to come.
Rise above hatred and intolerance. It is not okay that the news is all about death and murders of our children. Why aren't we doing more, doing better?
If the news this week doesn't anger you, well... I can only say that it makes me hold my kids that much tighter. Kiss them that much longer. Not having them all the time (50/50 custody) kills me; this week has been particularly agonizing. I've found myself smiling at their faces that I have tattooed in my memory; staring longingly at pictures on the table; watching videos endlessly on my iphone. I miss them so much when they're not with me:(
In this time where we're so engrossed in Politics, I implore you to stop and smell the roses. Remember the only thing that matters: compassion and love for one another.
