School Of Rock To Host Cancer Benefit At The Limit

The Fort Washington School of Rock and the Main Line School of Rock will join forces to host a cancer benefit on Sunday, June 3, at the Limit in Blue Bell, with all proceeds going to the family of 14-year-old , who is currently battling osteosarcoma.

The benefit will begin at 5 p.m. at the former location of Reeds, and it will feature the students performing their “Best of Season Show”, which contains selections from Pink Floyd, The Ramones, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Guns N’ Roses and many more. Tickets for the three-hour event are $10 per person, and can be purchased at the door.

“It’s a story about kids raising money for kids, which is awesome,” said Amy Ellis, of the Fort Washington School of Rock. “It’s also about rock and roll, which is pretty awesome, too.”

Bobby was diagnosed with the rare form of bone cancer in January, and has since undergone , which are expected to continue throughout the summer. The cancer, which is located in Bobby’s leg, also required the surgical removal of the remaining tumor, as well as a portion of the bone. He underwent limb salvage surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in April.

Despite being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, the Germantown Academy eighth-grader has remained remarkably positive, but his father, John, said that commuting back and forth to Philadelphia, expensive prescriptions, frequent co-pays and taking time off from his auto shop has had a negative impact on the family’s finances.

Bobby is expected to make a full recovery, and his father is optimistic that Bobby will “be back in the swing of things next year.”
