Mini-Thon at Our Lady of Mercy

Students at the Upper Dublin regional catholic school raised more than $2,000 for the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

According to the Times Herald, students at the Our Lady of Mercy Regional Catholic School in Upper Dublin, organized an event in partnership with the Penn State University THON organization.

The event, on Feb. 1, involved the school’s kindergarten to eighth-grade students, during which they danced in the school’s gymnasium from 9 – 11 a.m.

Prior to the event, more than $2,000 in donations were collected by the school’s fifth-grade representatives, whose proceeds will go to the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.

According to the center’s website, the students’ mini-THON was modeled after the iconic Penn State THON organization and its annual event, in which Penn State student students remain awake for 46 hours, standing or dancing throughout the weekend.

Among the year-round fundraising endeavors of THON are the Mini-THONS, involving middle, high and elementary school students across the state, according to the Four Diamonds Fund website.

More than 2,000 families have benefited from THON fundraising since its inception in the late 1970s.
