Legal Traps to Avoid

People can get into trouble so easily and there are simple ways to avoid pure disaster. Here are a few helpful hints from a veteran lawyer that save you pure grief!

One of the joys in being a lawyer is helping people get out of trouble and maybe turn their whole lives around.  It is so easy to get into difficulty, and sometimes terribly hard to escape, not to mention expensive.  From time to time I like to make folks aware of the frequently made mistakes that seem so simple but can have dire consequences. Ignoring traffic tickets is a perfect example. There can be a snowball effect which can lead to high insurance rates, warrants for arrest, license suspension, and possible arrest.

Also, the worst thing an accused can say is, "I just want to get it over with!"  Quite frequently, their fear is their own worst enemy. Their worries become self-fulfilling prophecies. Our local district justices are very undertstanding, as are the police officers who issue the citations, if you show respect. Having a lawyer with you may result in a much lesser or downgraded charge, sometimes lessening or avoiding insurance points.  The expenditure can pay for itself in the money or inconvenience saved.  Oh, yes, and tell your children NOT to hide it from you because your insurance and/or their license can be in jeopardy. Also, always report a change in address to PennDOT to avoid missing important notices that, if ignored, can have the same sorrowful result,

Check out my recent blog in the Huffington Post (www.huffingtonpost.com/saulsegan) for more detailed ways in which both adults and children can avoid pitfalls.  And don't hesitate to call me and ask me a question.  We are here to help each other!  STAY SAFE!

Of course, BoA could also promote better money habits if it stopped gouging people on hidden fees.
