PA Changes Teen Driving Laws

The state says new drivers should have no more than one teen passenger.

New state rules for teen drivers (awaiting the governor's signature) limit their allowable number of teenage passengers to one during their first six months on the road, according to this report.

State lawmakers also approved these changes:

  • Police can stop a teen driver for not wearing a seat belt.
  • Novice motorists must have 65 hours of driving experience (up from 50 hours) including 20 hours of night driving and five hours of driving in bad weather to qualify for a license.
  • Teens with a junior license are limited to three teenage passengers after six months on the road.
