Dean Votes at Abington Library

State Rep. Madeleine Dean: ‘I don’t buy into the horse race.’

State Rep. Madeleine Dean, D-153, hit the polls early to cast her vote.

Dean voted this morning at Abington Library, along with throngs of other voters at polling place 11-1. The line to vote was just about out the door.

It was something of a different feeling for Dean; the last time she voted for herself she was involved in a special election to fill the unexpired term of then-State Rep. Josh Shapiro.

“There’s a whole lot of people running with me this time,” Dean said. “In the special election it was very much unknown. But now we have such a wave of people running … I don’t know, I feel very enthusiastic.”

She also said felt excited about the chances of the Democrats today.

“I feel really strongly about [the Democrats’ chances],” Dean said. “I don’t buy the horse race. I think it’s going to be a very strong Democratic year. Some [Democrats] are very worried, and some think the polls are closer than they are, but I’m happy and confident.”

Dean was voting along with her husband. She said later in the day she will visit 15 polling places in the district.

“We have a lot of good workers at all of the polling places and I want to make sure I stop by and say hi,” Dean said.

One of the people manning the polls said that people are “protesting” the Voter ID law in several ways: some people are going out of their way to say “no” when asked for identification; others are showing as many forms of ID as they can get their hands on.
