Casey Introduces Bill to Promote Flexible Work Arrangements

Today U.S  Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) and Representative Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY)  announced that they have introduced the Flexibility for Working Families Act, legislation to guarantee employees the right to request flexible work arrangements in terms of hours, schedules, or work location. The bill provides employers with flexibility by encouraging them to review these requests, propose changes, and even deny them if they are not considered in the best interest of their business.

“Providing for voluntary and truly flexible work arrangements can benefit workers so that they can spend more time with their families and it can benefit employers through increased productivity,” said Senator Casey. “This bill will help businesses benefit from more productive employees and empower workers with the knowledge of what arrangements are possible to accommodate their family life while preserving existing protections.”

“Across all sectors and industries, flexible work arrangements are a key to meeting the 21st Century’s diverse workforce needs,” said Rep. Maloney. “These voluntary arrangements between employees and employers to change the time, amount, or location that work is conducted, allows workers to meet the needs of job and home. Studies show that these policies help businesses reduce turnover and boost employee productivity. It’s a clear win-win for all.”

Studies have shown such voluntary arrangements have been shown to boost employee satisfaction and their physical and mental health as well as improve businesses bottom line by helping to retain key talent, reduce absenteeism, and improve productivity.
