Theft from a Church and More Police Reports

Someone steals from a church, someone steals a motorcycle and someone asks for some money in a roundabout way.

Theft … Someone stole about $50 from a poor box in the vestibule of St. Alphonsus Church on Conwell Drive sometime before March 13 at 9:34 a.m., police said. According to police, the person cut the pad lock to the box and took the money and the offering envelopes. There was also damage done to the donation box.

Suspicious person … On March 14 at 11:30 a.m. someone called a resident of the 700 block of Honey Run Road in Ambler and told the homeowner that the homeowner had won a $1 million lottery, $10,000 in cash and a new car, police said. According to police, the caller — a man with a Middle Eastern sounding accent … who identified himself as a woman, Mary — told the homeowner to go to CVS and to buy a Green Dot money pack scratch card for $251. The homeowner was then told after he obtained the gift card to wait for a phone call at 2 p.m. at which time the homeowner would have to provide the card’s access code. The caller then said he would come to the victim’s home, take the Green Dot card and then they would sign a document and give him the “winning check” to deposit.

Warrant arrest … Kashiem Jones, 19, of the 2000 block of Navajo Path, Ambler, was arrested March 13 shortly before 4 a.m. after police said he was walking in the middle of Butler Pike in the area of Cavendish Drive while wearing dark clothing. According to police, Jones had an existing warrant out of Philadelphia. He was transported back to Upper Dublin Police and was handed over to the Philadelphia Warrant Unit pickup at 5:25 a.m.
