Charges Carried Over To County In Goldberg Indecent Assault Case

The former Wissahickon teacher will head to county court for a formal arraignment on July 6 at 9:30 a.m.

A former Wissahickon teacher who had his charges carried over to county court on Wednesday, following a preliminary hearing in front of District Judge Robert Sobeck.

Dr. Ronald Goldberg, who taught sixth-grade at Wissahickon Middle School until he retired in 2009, will be formally arraigned on charges of indecent assault, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of a child at the Montgomery County Courthouse on July 6 at 9:30 a.m.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, two female students reported to police that Goldberg had inappropriately touched them while they attended his class. The first student, who is now 15-years-old, initially reported the alleged contact on October 20, 2011. The second student, now 20-years-old, came forward to report that similar incidents had occurred while she was a sixth-grade student in 2004.

Both students claim that the contact occurred at the school during school hours, and both stated that Goldberg would periodically give them food and money throughout the school year, according to police.

Wissahickon School District Superintendent, Judith Clark, issued a statement to parents through the district's website, acknowledging the arrest and pledging full cooperation throughout the investigation, though the district has declined any further .

Goldberg remains free after posting 10-percent of $50,000 bail.
