Mercury Heading Higher This Weekend

After a week of cool temperatures, this weekend and the beginning of next week will be very warm

Remember the shorts you started to take out of mothballs when the weather got warm last month? Go get them.

The past couple of days were reasonably pleasant, but this weekend, the temperatures will skyrocket into late-spring- and mid-summer-like magnitudes.

A massive high pressure system will move into our area from the west this afternoon and continue into Saturday. This system will not last very long as it will retreat out to the Atlantic Ocean.

Today is going to be one of those days where you can't thank God enough that it is Friday.

The sun will be at its finest and high temperatures will fly into the mid-60s. A breeze from the west at 5 to 10 mph will complete the final ingredient in making a great weather recipe to the weekend.

Tonight will be mostly clear and not as cold. By midnight, temperatures will fall into the mid-40s. Expect west winds at around 5 mph then becoming calm.

Saturday will be gorgeous with partly sunny skies and a high temperature in the low 70s. Clouds will start to increase in the late afternoon as a disturbance from the west approaches the region. Winds will increase from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph.

As nighttime arrives, cloudy conditions will take over Saturday night with a chance of some scattered showers. Temperatures will remain mild while only dropping to the mid-50s.

Sunday will be humid and very warm, as southwest temperatures rage at 10 to 15 mph. This will create what meteorologists call warm air advection.

In other words, because of high winds from the south, warm air will surge into the region. Mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers are expected with a high temperature flirting with the 80-degree mark.

As next week begins, temperatures will be highly above average where our area can see high temperatures in the mid-80s.
