Robert E. Steel, World War II Vet, Sandy Run CC Member

Robert E. Steel of Glenside, served in Europe during World War II and was a Drexel University graduate.

Robert E. Steel, of Glenside, died Wednesday, May 1 in North Wales. He was 93. 

Born in Sharon Hill, he was the son of the late Clarence and Sarah Deacon Steel. He was married for 64 years to Dorothea Hobdell, who died in 2005. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Edythe Kahn and Mary Steel.

Steel was a Captain in the U.S. Army, serving in England, France and Germany. He was also a member of the Weldon Fire Co., where he became Captain and was a life member. He was also a member of the Glenside Kiwanis Club.

Steel is survived by his daughter, Thea Steel Schemm of North Wales; his son, Fred Steel of Fort Washington; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A funeral service and interment will be private.
