Richard P. "Dick" Fry, 77, of Ambler

Richard Fry served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960; SP-4, 2nd Howitzer Battalion, 6th Artillery, trained in Texas then stationed in Germany for 18 months.

Richard P. "Dick" Fry, 77, of Ambler, died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at home with his family.

Born in Prospectville, PA, he was the son of the late Albert and Sara (nee Dager) Fry. He attended Dorothea H. Simmons Elementary School and was a graduate of Hatboro-Horsham High School, Class of 1953.

Mr. Fry served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960; SP-4, 2nd Howitzer Battalion, 6th Artillery, trained in Texas then stationed in Germany for 18 months.

Dick started his career working for Standard Pressed Steel and Turbo Machine Company as a machinist. He then became a plumber with E.C. Rich in Flourtown and Webster Plumbing in Ambler until his semi retirement in 1998. He was proud of his work, and enjoyed being the one to help the homeowners in distress. Those who called him to fix a leaking faucet, stopped up sink, or running toilet; knew that he would fix the problem and never leave a mess behind.

Mr. Fry was a loyal volunteer with the Wissahickon Fire Company for 50 years. He was a Life Active Member, starting with the Fire Police Unit and moved on to fire fighting and served as an Asst. Chief Engineer. He was raised in the Lutheran Faith at Upper Dublin Lutheran Church where he stayed active in the Upper Dublin Lutheran Church Men's Group and was a long time member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Ambler where he attended with his family.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Anne (nee Blair) Fry, and his devoted sons Richard P. Fry, Jr and wife Pamela of Lower Gwynedd, and Keith A. Fry and wife Patricia of Perkiomenville, PA. Mr. Fry was also the loving grandfather of Vanessa, Melanie, Megan, Emily and Alison. He is also survived by brothers Robert W. Fry and wife Mary Jane of Chalfont and William Fry and wife Donna of Doylestown; and his sister Mary C. Wolford and her husband Shirl of Bristol, TN.

Family and Friends are invited to call after 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 2:30 PM with the Rev. Sukja Bang pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church Officiating.
