Do you know what is covered by your Homeowners Insurance Policy?

Think beyond the basics for your homeowners insurance policy. Here are three details people often don't ask about, make sure you are covered for these.

3 Important Things to Add to Your Homeowners Policy:

A standard homeowners policy is fairly consistant between companies.  There are a few extras that are not included in most policies that should be discussed with your agent.

1. Sewer and drain back up coverage.  This endorsement protects you in the event any system that is supposed to remove water or sewage from the home , like a french drain or a sump pump, backups causing damage to the structure or contents.

2. Jewerly Floater.  If you have specific pieces of jewerly that you wear often or are concerned about losing schedule it on your policy.  A recent appraisal or bill of sale will be needed as proof of the value.

3. Personal Property Replacement Cost.  If your policy isn't a replacement cost for your home and your contents, ask if you can add it.  Replacement cost means the insurance company will give you all new stuff for your old stuff.

There are many other endorsments to your policy.  Make sure you have your agent over to see your home or let him/her know what concerns you most about your possessions so they can help you properly and economically protect them.
