WVWA Holds Ice Cream Social

Visit the Evans-Mumbower Mill on July 15 and enjoy an ice cream social, as well.

From Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association:

Enjoy ice cream and a fascinating tour with the at the on Sunday, July 15 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Bring a blanket and picnic to enjoy on the grounds, and ice cream and toppings will be available for dessert. The Mill will be open for tours and the water wheel will be operating. The fee is $3 per person and children under 5 are free.

The mill is once again powered by water, the first season since the Mill was abandoned in 1929. Hear the water splash over the water wheel, feel the rumble of the millstones and witness the cornmeal as it spills down the chute into a barrel below. Costumed mill guides will offer tours and explanations about the workings and history of the Evans-Mumbower Mill.

The Wissahickon Creek was an important center of industry providing waterpower for over seventy mills in the 19th century.  The Evans-Mumbower is the only remaining mill in Montgomery County that is operational and open to the public. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Mill is at the corner of Swedesford and Township Line Roads in Upper Gwynedd. Parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood.
