Weather Outlook: Washing Away the Snow

After a blanket of snow, chances of rain this week may quickly wash it away.

A week ago we were surmising about the possibility of a mild weekend that would blossom into a warm start to this week. Ha, how things have changed.   Saturday's two-to-four-inch snow event was a painful reminder to me that winter's laugh can be hearty and it definitely can be made last.

We will still have some mild weather to deal in the early half of this week thanks to a low that will track to our west and drag warmth over us for Monday and Monday evening.

Occasional rains are possible through the day ahead of the front, which should move through late in the evening hours.  Temperatures on Monday will average out to near 50 but may be a bit cooler in Upper Montgomery County compared to Chester County depending on how quickly the milder air nudges in during the afternoon.

Rainfall with this system should generally be modest on the whole -- half inch type rains -- but it will be enough to help wash away a good amount of the snow in your yard.

Tuesday and Wednesday will arguably be the nicest days of the week, with Tuesday's high near 50 and Wednesday's high in the mid-40s under mostly sunny skies. Tuesday may be breezy at times with west breezes in the wake of the front adding a bit of coolness to the air, with Wednesday much calmer. If most January days could be like this snow lovers would have convulsions and fits I would think.

Another storm system moves on in for the latter half of the week -- the question comes down to track and timing but the consensus track for this low pressure system is to our west, which means we are on the milder side of the storm.

One set of computer modeling suggests a weaker outcome and possibly two separate events while another computer model (the better one in the longer range) suggests a storm system for Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. As of now, that's the one I think is most likely to verify. Light rain should move in Thursday morning, steadier Thursday evening and ending early Friday. Temperatures should hang in the 40's during the event assuming the projected track and timing hold. Cooler air but nothing terribly cold awaits for next weekend.
