Ford Recalling Fusion, Escape for Engines Catching Fire

Ford is recalling 89,153 Fusion sedans and Escape crossovers with the Ford EcoBoost turbocharged engine.

According to a report in USA Today, the 1.6-liter EcoBoot engines in the Escape and Fusion can overheat and catch fire. There have been 12 fires reported in Escapes and one reported in the Fusion sedans.

In a report from the Detroit News, Said Deep, spokesman for Ford, said the overheating engines "can lead to fluid leaks, which may come in contact with a hot exhaust system and trigger a fire."

According to a report in the LA Times, "Drivers who have encountered the problem said they noticed high engine temperatures followed by fires. At the same time, a message on their instrument cluster would say, 'Engine power reduced to lower temps' or 'Engine over temp, stop safely.' Some also said their instrument clusters sounded a chime and turned on a red light."

"Ford is urging owners to park their vehicles, contact their dealers and arrange for loaners."
