Free PSAT Analysis ... What does your score really mean?

If you are a parent of an HS sophomore or junior you may be anxiously awaiting the return of the PSAT ....  you may also be asking "Why does it take so long to get this score report?"  ... but that's another topic.

So what does the PSAT score mean anyway?

On the surface it is a 'practice'  (P actually stands for Preliminary) version of the well known SAT exam, so the PSAT can be used as a rough gauge for an expected score on the SAT.  For example, if your child scores a net of 160 on the PSAT you might expect a score of about 1600 on the SAT (the tests are scaled a bit differently).   Secondly, the PSAT is also used by the National Merit Scholarship Agency as a basis for their scholarship levels.

However you can learn much more about your students performance and expected SAT / ACT results by a more careful analysis and there are much more subtle ways to analyze the score the will indicate specific areas of need which in turn can be used to plan a test prep program.  The key to any effective prep program is correct assessment and proper planning prior to starting the course. mAke the grAde offers a complimentary PSAT analysis and consultation which is intended give parents / students the best information in order to determine needs moving forward.
