Dear Parents and Guardians,

Perhaps it is a sign of growing older, but summers do seem to be flying by much more quickly.

Our theme for the 2013-14 school year in the School District of Upper Dublin is anticipation, or looking forward.

It is not unusual for us as teachers, principals, or superintendents to have careers spanning thirty or more years (in fact, this is my 34th September). What we need to sometimes remind ourselves of, however, is that for our students, this is (hopefully) the only year they will ever spend in first grade or second grade or sixth grade or twelfth grade. There is pressure to make it a great one.

Just as in baseball, each spring season begins with hope and optimism, for those of us in school it represents a fresh slate (actually, though, the slates have been replaced by interactive whiteboards) and hope does spring eternal.

On behalf of the faculty, staff, administration and the Board of School Directors, I wish each of our families what I hope and trust will be a school year filled with much success, fulfillment, and happiness. The next leg of the 183 day journey that each school year represents begins on the other side of Labor Day, and we can’t wait....

Respectfully,
Michael Pladus
Superintendent of Schools
