Family Stages Bringing Shows to the Ambler Theater

Oreland's acting duo at Family Stages will be bringing some of their classic shows to the Ambler Theater, beginning in November.

From Family Stages:

Family Stages and the Ambler Theater are teaming up to bring live, professional plays to the historic stage. Leading off the series is The Wizard of Oz. Audiences will be treated to one of the most inventive and fun-filled productions of the timeless classic ever. Two actors recreate the entire story. All the familiar characters are there: Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, Witches (Good & Wicked), The Wonderful Wizard and, of course, Dorothy and Toto. How can they do it? Simple - the girl plays Dorothy and the guy plays everyone else! Performances are set for Saturday, November 3 at 11 a.m. and Monday, November 5 at 10 a.m.

This spirited version of The Wizard of Oz was originally performed in 1980 when husband and wife team Elise and Steve Seyfried began their theatre company, Duet Productions. Through the years, the company has grown and is now called Family Stages. In that time the Seyfrieds have written and produced over 30 of these creative, dynamic two-actor shows. With a marvelous combination of visual comedy and clever dialogue, the productions are enjoyed by family members of all ages.

Family Stages will bring 6 productions to the Ambler Theater over the next few months. The Holiday Goose arrives in December. Based on the hilarious plots and characters of Italy’s Commedia dell’arte, the story centers on two bumbling servants who must recreate a banquet when the geese for Christmas dinner escape. This production features the sparkling music and lyrics of Charles Gilbert. Performances take place on Saturday, December 8 at 11 a.m. and Monday, December 10 at 10 a.m.

In January, audiences will enjoy Cinderella. February’s show is The Jungle Book. March brings Puss in Boot, and the series concludes in April with Alice in Wonderland. Tickets to all the shows are $10. Special rates are available for school groups attending the weekday shows. All the productions run just under an hour. The theater is located at 108 E. Butler Avenue in Ambler. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Family Stages at 215-886-9341 or familystages@gmail.com. The company also conducts theatre classes and camps for children in Oreland at Christ’s Lutheran Church. The complete schedule of activities is online at www.familystages.org.
