Montco to Hold Final 2013 Household Haz Waste Collection Oct. 20

Montgomery County will hold its last household hazardous waste collection event for 2013 in Penn Valley.

Montgomery County will hold its final household hazardous waste collection on Oct. 20 at the Lower Merion Transfer Station in Penn Valley, according to a county press release.

The collection will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Those participating in the Oct. 20 household hazardous waste collection event should drive to the Lower Merion Transfer Station, located at 1300 North Woodbine Ave in Penn Valley.

The following items will not be accepted at the collection site:

-Latex paint: this is not hazardous and can be thrown in the trash after it dries completely.

-Alkaline batteries: these are not hazardous and can be thrown in the trash if they were made after 1996.

-Asbestos

-Large appliances and white goods: contact the township or trash or recycling hauler to schedule something to be picked up, or alternately, call the Montgomery County Recycling Hotline at 610-278-3618.

-Medical or infectious or waste

-Explosives and ammunition: contact the local police department or the Montgomery County Bomb Squad at 610-278-3331.

-For air conditioners, refrigerators and de/humidifiers, please consult the trash or recycling hauler, or the township about scheduling a pick up, or call 610-278-3618 for more information.

-Working refrigerators: contact PECO at 1-888-5-PECO-SAVE.

-Waste that is radioactive

-For smoke detectors, mail them back to the manufacturer. Check the back of the item for more information or throw it in trash.
