Dean Sworn In

State Rep. Madeleine Dean, D-153, begins her first full term.

State Rep. Madeleine Dean, D-153, was sworn in to the House of Representatives yesterday, beginning her first full term as a legislator.

Yesterday’s swearing-in ceremony marked the beginning of the 2013-14 legislative session and the 197th of the Pennsylvania General Assembly.

Dean won a special election during the 2011-12 session to replace Josh Shapiro, who left the General Assembly for a seat on the Montgomery County Commissioners board. Dean’s re-election in November secured her first full term.

"As we enter a new year and session, I feel honored and invigorated," Dean said in a press release. "This session will no doubt bring new challenges and opportunities. I look forward to building on the successes that we worked for last year."

Dean served on the select committee to study property taxes in 2012. She was elected vice chairwoman of the House’s Southeast Delegation of the Democratic Caucus going forward in 2013.

"I will focus on what is important to my constituents in Abington and Upper Dublin: supporting our excellent schools by investing in education, helping our economy by rebuilding our infrastructure, and protecting our environment by addressing the fracking industry. I am also committed to passing ethical and sensible gun legislation."
