CORRECTION: Absbestos Study Focuses on Cancer Cluster in Ambler

Penn Medicine has received a grant to study asbestos in Ambler.

According to a report from CBS Philadelphia, "Penn Medicine has received a grant from the National Institutes of Health for a five-year study that will document the lives of those affected by asbestos exposure in Ambler."

The researchers hope the study will educate the community about conditions in the community and in the long term potentially assist local lawmakers to make decisions regarding the former Asbestos factory in Ambler and the future of the site.

The Asbestos plant was in operation in Ambler for over 100 years, and University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Associate Professor Dr. Fran Barg told CBS Philadelphia that because there is such a "lag time between exposure and illness" people in Ambler could still become ill.
