PHILLY WELCOMES BRAND NEW SHOW ‘DEAR MOM’

A ‘Dramedy’ Inspired by Actual Letters Written From

Daughters to Their Mothers

We are pleased to announce the premiere of DEAR MOM, a ‘dramedy’ inspired by actual letters written by daughters to their mothers. DEAR MOM tells the story of Linda, a 45 year-old woman faced with having to say goodbye to her mother Joan. Through the letters she is able to reflect on her relationship with her mother with candor and humor.

DEAR MOM will be playing at the Penn’s Landing Playhouse, located in the Independence Seaport Museum; the show soft opened on April 1st and will now officially run through June 4th. The play stars Katherine Barron as Linda, Frances McGarry, PhD as Joan and Kelsey Lidsky as “the letter writers.”

When Co-Creators Jay Falzone and Nancy Holson took action to receive letters from real daughters to mothers they did not expect the outpouring of material they received. Letters came in from all walks of life, from all over the world and from women ranging from ages 18 to 88. Each one inspired the play and many of the actual letters appear unedited in a book they are releasing in conjunction with the show entitled Dear Mom, It’s About Time I Told, which can be purchased for $20 at every performance.

"DEAR MOM is a play about a mother and daughter that know exactly how to push each other’s buttons,” says Co-Creator Jay Falzone. “Amidst the funny and poignant letters, the heart of the play is in these two feisty women that argue, then make up, in humorous and touching ways."

The DEAR MOM team is especially thrilled to be hosting a special matinee performance on Mother’s Day, May 11th.  In fact, some of the actual letter writers are traveling in for this special event, from as far as Hawaii.

Additionally, a portion of sales from the entire run of show will go to Breastcancer.org – a national nonprofit, locally based in Ardmore, that is recognized as the leader in providing the most reliable, complete and up-to-date information on breast cancer. To make the donation, ticket buyers can use promo code “MOM.”

After the Mother’s Day matinee performance guests can stay for a reception to meet the actors, producers, directors, and letter writers as well as representatives from BreastCancer.org, who will be able to provide information on the impact of each donation. Light fare and mimosas will be provided.

“There is nothing quite as special as the relationship between a mother and daughter,” says Rita Lusen, VP of Corporate Partnerships at Breastcancer.org. “We are excited to be involved with such a meaningful show and we are thankful for the generous support for the millions of mothers and daughters in our Breastcancer.org community.”

DEAR MOM is playing at the Penn’s Landing Playhouse in the Independence Seaport Museum, now through June 4th, located at 211 South Columbus Boulevard. Shows are on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7pm with a special matinee performance at 2pm on May 11th, Mother’s Day. Tickets range from $35 to $45, with a special promotion of $25 when purchased before May 1st and can be ordered at http://plplayhouse.com/dear_mom/index.shtm.
