                      Free Heart Screening

     Important Pre-registration Information

Paige Florin, a Sandy Run Middle School student, has decided that she wants to make sure that all of the kids in Upper Dublin are heart healthy. With the help of funds raised through her Sandy Run Valentine’s Day fundraiser and a donation from Whole Foods Market,

a free heart screening is being set up for the Upper Dublin community on Sunday, September 23rd for the youth ages 10-19, from 8AM to 4PM, in the Upper Dublin HIgh School Cafeteria.

Long QT syndrome is something that many people have never even heard of.  The fact is that Long QT
syndrome is a very serious heart disorder that can cause sudden cardiac arrest in anyone, including kids.  The worst
part is that without the simple non-invasive ECG (electrocardiogram) being part of any routine physicals for kids, this treatable condition may never be detected
until it is too late.  Simon’s Fund is a foundation that was set up in memory of a 3 month old child, Simon Sudman, who passed away suddenly, in his sleep, from sudden cardiac arrest.  It was later determined to be from Long QTsyndrome, which could have been treated if detected.  Simon’s Fund sets up free heart screenings in schools, to help to save lives. This screening takes about 30 minutes and is done through CHOP physicians and involves a simple, non-invasive ECG test.

Appointments and pre-registration are required please pre-register at

 http://www.simonsfund.org/get-sreened/register/.

By visiting this website you can also find out more
information regarding Long QT syndrome, other potential serious heart defects that have been detected, and all the wonderful things that Simon’s Fund is doing.  Look for event reminders in local newspapers .

Although the screenings are free for the students, each school screening costs over $10,000.  Simon’s Fund
counts on donations to be able to continue to screen as many kids as possible so that they can continue to save lives. If you are interested in donating to help with the cost for future screenings please visit

Volunteers, including nurses, are very much needed for this event.  If you are interested in helping
out, please email Jill Florin at jsffitness@comcast.net
