Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
I have to thank Pinterest for this amazingly easy and decadent treat recipe. It's so easy that I was able to make it with help from a very excited 3 year old.  Ingredients Boxed brownie mix (and ingredients the mix calls for) Store bought cookie dough Full sized Reese's cups Directions Preheat oven to 350. Line a cupcake tin with cupcake papers. Fill cupcake liners 1/4 full with cookie dough and flatten. Top with Reese's cups. Fill 3/4 full with brownie batter. Bake for 20 minutes. (Seriously, it's that easy!)
To me, the flavors of pumpkin and squash are very reminiscent of fall. This butternut squash ravioli (which you could swap out for pumpkin ravioli) was delicious, easy, light, and had me wanting to go back for more. This definitely has all the flavors of fall! Ingredients 1 lb. butternut squash ravioli 1/2 lb. sweet Italian turkey sausage links, casings removed 1 medium onion, diced 4 minced garlic cloves 1 cup chicken stock 1/2 cup white wine 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/8 cup Parmesan cheese 1 Tbs. dried parsley flakes 2 Tbs. butter salt and pepper to taste Directions Cook ravioli according…
I'm a sucker for Rice Krispies Treats, and I love the ones from Starbucks with those big chunky marshmallows and the gooey-ness of them. These Rice Krispies treats are almost perfect copy-cats of those chunky treats. Ingredients 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal 5 cups mini marshmallows (approximately 1 10-oz bag), separated 1/4 cup butter Directions Grease a 9"x13" with baking spray. In a large bowl, combine Rice Krispies and 1 cup of the mini marshmallows and set aside. Place butter in medium mixing bowl and microwave on 50 percent power until melted, about 1 minute. Add the remaining 4 cups of …
I’ve been looking for a good, crispy fried chicken at home, without needing a full blown deep fryer, and let me tell you, plain flour does not do the trick! After quite a bit of experimenting with different crunchy items in my pantry, I started playing more with panko - which has a nice, light texture, but also super crunchy and crispy when cooked fried, or even toasted. But panko doesn’t have much flavor, so I added a little of the “Italian style” or “Italian flavored” bread crumbs, which added a great flavor. I served my chicken with pasta and a rose sauce, but it would be perfect with a …
Chocolate and peanut butter might be the best flavor combination – ever. And, with the beginning of school on the horizon, which means packing lunch and bake sales also just around the corner, these individual brownies are perfect. If you’re not a fan of peanut butter, you can also use whit chocolate chips, or any kind of chips you’d prefer (butterscotch chips would probably also be fantastic!). Ingredients ¾ cup cocoa 2/3 cup vegetable oil 2 cup sugar 4 eggs 2 tsp. Vanilla 1 ¼ cup flour 1 tsp. Baking powder ½ tsp. Salt 1 10-oz. bag peanut butter chips Directions Preheat oven to 350 degrees. …
What's better than cornbread with dinner? Nothing that I can think of, honestly. I prefer sweet cornbread over the more hearty, savory kind. This was delicious and super easy. I made this a few hours ahead of time of a dinner party and it was perfectly timed for dinner. It was the perfect compliement to grilled bratwurst and mac and cheese, and perfectly paired with my gumbo. I highly suggest, making this for your next dinner party or family gathering instead of rolls, as a nice surprise for your guests. Ingredients 1/2 cup (1 stick) chilled unsalted butter 2 cups yellow cornmeal 3/4 cup all-…
It’s supposed to be hot, hot, hot this weekend, and may people will be having barbeques and picnics with family outside. While the kids are running through the sprinkler or sliding down a Slip and Slide, the adults in your party can chill off with this slightly sweet and refreshing sangria. If you’d like, you can splash some lemon lime soda or soda water on top of each glass or add 6 oz. of either to your pitcher just before serving. Even if you’re not having a party this weekend, this sangria is fantastic to sip by the pool or just enjoy on a steamy hot afternoon. Ingredients 1 apple, diced …
I love strawberries.  My mouth waters when I walk past those sweet, juicy berries at the grocery store. Most of the time, I'll eat strawberries all by themselves, but sometimes I want dessert. That's when my shortcut shortcakes are perfect. I like tossing my strawberries with a little sugar, but you definitely do not have to. To make two desserts it take me less than five minutes, and they are delicious. Ingredients 1 butter loaf pound cake Approximately 4 strawberries per serving, cleaned and quartered Whipped cream (the Reddi-Whip kind is the best, although you can use Cool Whip, or, better…
Corn chowder might be one of my guilty pleasures. There’s very little in it that’s healthy, but its absolutely delicious. This is mostly my grandmother’s recipe, I’ve added a little to it to make it my own, but it definitely reminded me of growing up and visiting my grandmother. For me, I took my immersion blender to the soup a few times just to make it a little creamier, and to break up some of the bigger veggie chunks. You don’t have to do this, but it definitely made my soup smoother. Ingredients 2 slices of bacon, julienned 1 medium onion, diced 1 medium green pepper, diced 2 cups milk 1…
Potatoes take a long time to cook – a very, very long time! I threw mine on the grill before I began to prep my steaks and they came off at the same time. The potatoes were on for about 30 minutes and were perfectly cooked. I definitely recommend this method. These were also delicious, with a nice hint of flavor without being overly spicy and complementing the steaks beautifully. Add slices of onion to the pouch for extra flavor! These will make a great addition to your picnic spread this Memorial Day weekend, or for any barbeque, or anytime you’re grilling! Ingredients 2 baking potatoes ¼ …
Happy early Memorial Day, readers! While you’re making your hotdogs and hamburgers next weekend, these proscuttio wrapped asparagus spears will make a tasty addition to your holiday picnic spread. They are also fast and easy to make. Ingredients 12 asparagus spears 12 slices, thin cut prosciutto Olive Oil Salt and Pepper Directions Wrap asparagus with slice of prosciutto, repeat with each asparagus spear. Drizzle wrapped asparagus with olive oil and season with lightly salt and pepper. Place asparagus on the grill, and leave on for 6 to 10 minutes, or until asparagus is cooked and prosciutto …
Sometimes, I want a dessert that is sweet and tastes like it’s healthy. Especially this time of year with all of the fresh fruit in the grocery stores and at farmers’ markets and farm stands. This is a fun dessert to make with kids, you can let them help with the pizza! You can also pick your favorite fruits or the fruits that are in season. For this fruit pizza, I used grapes, bananas, apples, and strawberries. But it’s also delicious with raspberries, kiwi, star fruit, mango and more. Ingredients Package of Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix (and items called for on package) Marzetti Cream …
While you’re noshing on chips and salsa and downing Corona’s on Saturday, these cupcakes will be wonderful addition to your spread. Who doesn’t want to eat boozy cupcakes while celebrating Cinco de Mayo? However, these are clearly not child friendly. However, you could skip brushing on the tequila and remove it from the frosting and replace it with vanilla extract. Enjoy! Ingredients For the cupcakes 1 ½ cups flour 1 ½ tsp. baking powder ¼ tsp. salt ½ cup butter, at room temperature 1 cup sugar 2 eggs Zest and juice of 1 ½ limes 2 tbs. tequila ¼ tsp. Vanilla ½ cup sour milk (1/2 Tbs. vinegar …
I was looking for something healthy, but still delicious. While browsing Pinterest for recipes, I came across this recipe for stuffed zucchini by Simply Love Food. And, although I’ve changed it slightly, it’s still very delicious. We had a lot of leftover filling (I used a full pound of ground chicken), but reheated it the next day on the stovetop and we tucked it into crispy taco shells, topped with taco sauce, more sour cream, and cheddar cheese and it was doubly delicious. Ingredients 2 medium sized zucchini (makes 4 stuffed zucchini) 1/2 lb. ground chicken ½ sweet onion 1 medium red bell …
I'll be honest, looking at this recipe originally, I was a little concerned - I mean, come on, pineapple and teriyaki? But I was wrong - very wrong. This was delicious and smelled amazing while cooking. Ingredients 26 oz (about 1 bottle) teriyaki sauce 6 oz pineapple juice 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 lb) salt and pepper to taste Directions Combine all ingredients into gallon air-tight baggy and place into refrigerator. (To protect fridge from potential leakage, place bag into plastic container) Marinate for 1 to 2 days Preheat oven to 350 degrees Heat 2 Tsbp. extra-virgin …
Happy spring! Spring fever has definitely set in, in my house! The warm weather and pretty flowers has me aching to stash away my coats and jackets until next fall and break out pretty dresses…and to start baking pretty things. These super-cute birds nest cookies are really easy and no-bakes. Practically ready in 20 minutes! Make them for your Easter gathering and your friends and family will be asking for the recipe to make for their own families. And, not only are they adorable, but they are really scrumptious as well. You could leave out the butterscotch chips, but it’s really good like …
The Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of pork and sauerkraut as your first meal of the New Year has been something my family has done since I’m little. “Pork and Kraut” when eaten as your first meal of the New Year is said to bring you luck and prosperity. In my family, that tradition has taken many forms, from pork chops to hot dogs. And, now that I am out of the house, something that I have continued. Does it bring me luck and prosperity? Well, I’m not so sure about that, but I continue to eat the traditional New Year’s meal just in case. Serve up this yummy pork with a big bowl of mashed …
Cookie season is in full swing! Every year, I love traditional cookies, but I also like to make some new cookies as well to start new traditions and find new favorites in the family. Last year I made traditional sugar plums, peanut butter blossoms and Merry Teddy Bear cookies. This year, I'm testing out recipes like chocolate candy cane cookies and this recipe for chocolate covered raisin cookies, both of which are sure to become part of the holiday standard around here. These were really easy - just dump, mix, and scoop. You could also remove the butter, egg and vanilla and pack all of the …
I love candy cane hot chocolates. And Hershey’s Candy Cane Kisses are delicious, and only available this time of year. So, what perfect way to honor the delicious holiday treat than with their very own cookie? Be sure to refrigerate the dough so you can work with it. I found it easiest to make the cookies even by using a cookie scoop and then rolling the dough with my hands. Enjoy these warm as you pull them out of the oven (the Kisses will be melty from the warm cookie) or with milk as a special treat. These are perfect cookies for holiday guests or for a cookie exchange. Ingredients 1 cup …
I’ve tried a lot of hams in my time, and a lot of holiday hams and I have to say this one is by far my favorite. The glaze is delicious and easy to make and the recipe was easy to follow – even for a holiday ham newbie such as myself. It also reheated well as leftovers, which is not always the case. The glaze also worked well with the pineapple. Sometimes the glaze conflicts with the strong fruit. Overall, this was delightfully easy and delicious. Ingredients 1 spiral-sliced half ham 1 20-ounce can pineapple slices, juice reserved 15 to 20 whole cloves (you can also use toothpicks) 1 small …
