Hot air blowing east from the High Plains will impact our weather for the first half of the 4th of July holiday weekends...note the plural since the 4th falls on Wednesday and squarely in the middle of the week, which results in a few folks taking a full week off and enjoying a longer vacation.  We won't have a true "heat ridge" like the ones we have had the past couple of summers but with a southwesterly wind aloft we will see temperatures away from the shore and Delaware beaches jump into the mid and upper 90s for Friday, Saturday, and perhaps Sunday.

The coastline will be warm as well — temperatures in the 80s both Saturday and Sunday at the shore, with the lower 90s at the Delaware beaches as the wind trajectory will allow for some sea breezes each afternoon at the Jersey shore but not in Delaware.

In terms of precipitation, we could see some pop-up thunderstorm activity both afternoons as a weak frontal boundary drapes across northern Pennsylvania.  If this front slips far enough south, we could see a few thunderstorms drift down into Philadelphia, perhaps impacting the shore after sunset.  However, the vast majority of the daylight hours on Saturday and Sunday look dry.

The early word on the 4th suggests typical July warmth — 80s for the region — with the chance of an afternoon thunderstorm as a warm front approaches the region.  For now, the 4th does not look like a total washout.  Keep your fingers crossed!
