Obituary: Elly S. Deeken, of Fort Washington, Formerly of Abington
Deeken loved to travel, enjoyed taking walks outdoors, bird watching and gardening.
Elly S. Deeken, of Fort Washington, formerly of Abington, died Oct. 1 at Fort Washington Estates. She was 81.
She was the wife of the late Hans W. Deeken.
Born in Philadelphia on Oct. 30, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Elly (Meierdiercks) Schneider.
Elly was a graduate of Olney High School, Class of 1949, and Temple University, Class of 1953, with a degree in accounting.
She worked as an accountant for various companies and retired from the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill as its bookkeeper.
Elly loved to travel, enjoyed taking walks outdoors, bird watching and gardening.
She was also a loving homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by two sons, Gregor Deeken and wife Deborah of Penns Park, and Mark W. Deeken and wife Patty of Warrington; two grandchildren, Eric and Emma Deeken; a sister, Lee Lohwasser of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Hiltrude Kaune of Germany; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service on Friday, Oct. 5 at 11:30 a.m. at the Wayside Chapel at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler.
Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the chapel.
Interment will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
